On Saturday Oct, 07 long time Tuxedo member Maurice Van Walleghem will be honoured by Bowls Manitoba and will receive an award in recognition of his enduring commitment and contribution to bowls in Manitoba. Morris, as he is known, has long been a champion of junior bowls and is famous for his annual  fundraising corn roasts. Maurice can be proud of his playing record as well, having won many provincial championships including the men’s fours event upward of 15 times. Manitoba is proud of Maurice and his exemplary record of support and achievement. Many thanks go out to his lovely wife Cecile who is equally loved in our bowls community. Bravo!

Canadian Open Singles Championships

drivery.jpgAs many of you know Winnipeg is hosting the 2017 Canadian Open Singles Championships at Norwood and 1212 Dakota this week. In total there are more than 40 men and women vying for the title of Canadian Champion. Singles play, like 4’s, is rarely played at the clubs. Many members never experience singles, or even see it. Well now you have the chance. Sports Canada TV is live streaming many of the matches and you can view live streamed games at this link.

Bowls Canada has an event web page that can be viewed at this link. It has complete listing of the schedule, participants, results, and standings. Click on over and have a look. There are two entries from Tuxedo LBC this year, Brian Kullman and Jerome Kirby. We wish them all the best!

Congratulations to Tuxedo bowlers Sandra Mulholland, Shirley Stone, and Gerry Donnelly. This past Wednesday they teamed up with Phil Clark of Norwood to win this annual seniors fun event. There were no pictures taken of the winning squad, however we did manage to get a shot of one of the well dressed competing teams. See if you can guess who they are.snropen.png

Tuxedo Tournament Success

Congratulations to Tuxedo club members Brenda Frank, Ellen Diehl, Brian Kullman, and Jerome Kirby. Top honours in the Tom Moore Memorial went to Brian and Ellen, while Jerome and Norwood teammate Rick Knockaert prevailed in the Manitoba Open Pairs event. Brenda’s claim to fame this weekend was her TWO tournament “eight-enders”. How cool is that!? Brenda shared this exceptional achievement with her Norwood up-and-comer teammate Barb Heinrichs. Great job Ladies!! N.B. Brenda also had an eight ender this past week with club mate Joanne Kullman bringing Brenda’s weekly tally of eight-enders to 3. Wow!! Many thanks to the dedicated members of Tuxedo for hosting this event, and for their warm hospitality.

Fun/Competitive Bowls @ Tuxedo

tommoore.pngThis weekend our club will be the host green for, two fun – but competitive bowls events. Bravo to Tuxedo LBC for its continuing support and leadership in in the Manitoba bowls community. The Tom Moore pairs event is an annual event geared towards newcomers – it is strictly for 1st and 2nd year bowlers. Pictured above are Tuxedo members, and last years winners, Brian Kullman and Brenda Frank. Below we see fellow members, and Tom Moore winners Pauline and Michael Gale (Sandra presenting). The other bowls event this weekend is the Open Pairs tournament. Both of these tournaments will be closely contested and you are sure to see some good bowls action. Come and check it out. If you have some free time and care to lend a hand, that is welcome also. The draw times are Friday evening at 6:45, 9:45 Saturday morning and 1:15 Saturday afternoon. Good bowling!DSC00311.JPG
